From 0:00 on April 2, PVOIL's system was attacked by hackers, causing the website, email, payment application and electronic invoice to be suspended.

On the afternoon of April 2, Vietnam Oil Corporation (PVOIL) - the unit that accounts for 17% of the country's market share, said that their system was attacked by data encryption (ransomware) from 0:00.

PVOIL is one of 34 petroleum wholesalers operating in the market. This incident caused the entire information technology system, including the website, email, and PVOIL Easy payment application of this company and its member units to stop working.

Currently, they are also unable to issue electronic invoices, internal delivery and delivery notes to customers.

"We have reported to the authorities and are actively working to fix the problem as soon as possible," the company said.

In an internal announcement, PVOIL's General Director said it would take the company 1-2 days to fix the problem.

Currently, this enterprise has about 760 retail gasoline stations nationwide, not including franchise agents. In order to avoid interruption of gasoline supply in the market, PVOIL and its member units said they will continue to sell. However, these units will issue warehouse delivery notes with full information instead of electronic invoices to serve goods on the road. After the system is fixed, these companies will issue additional documents to customers.

Ransomware is a relatively common form of attack in recent years in Vietnam and around the world. Last weekend, the trading system of VNDirect Securities Company was also attacked by an international organization, causing investors' transactions there to be suspended for a week. Companies related to VNDirect, including the Post and Telecommunication Insurance Corporation, IPA Investment Group and IPAAM were also attacked by this form.
