These malicious apps are stealing around $100 million from users every year.

In recent years, tech giant Apple has come under fire from cybersecurity researchers for allowing fraudulent apps to remain on its App Store.

Apple has a very tight grip on third-party app installation (Sideload) due to security concerns.

Apple has always been very strict about sideloading apps due to security concerns. The iPhone maker has always explained that installing apps from third-party companies can put a lot of data at risk.

However, it seems that even the App Store is not a safe place. According to VPN Check, a cybersecurity platform, it has explained why iPhone users are still at risk even when using "official" software on Apple's app store. According to the latest report from Phone Arena, Apple's efforts to censor "input" applications on their App Store are not enough.

In March 2021, Avast detected around 133 fraudulent apps. To date, VPN Check has identified 84 of them still active on the App Store.

“We found that after more than a year, over 60% of these reported scam apps are still active on the App Store,” VPN Check founder Dr. Frederik Lipfert said via his official blog post.

VPN Check claims that active fraudulent iOS apps are still receiving millions of downloads. The cybersecurity firm adds that around 7 million iPhone users are at risk of having their data stolen. Additionally, they claim that these malicious apps are stealing around $100 million from users each year.

Most of these apps are easy to recognize, because they are either entertaining or creative. Here are some typical apps that are on the list: Photo To Sketch, VOCHI Video Effects Editor, FLMX, Stickerfy, Pixomatic, Presets for Lightroom, Jigsaw Puzzle, SpeedPro, Lift, Dazzle, Baby Sticker, Life Palmistry, Facetory...
