Google's developing AI technology has the ability to automatically control web browsers to perform tasks such as booking tickets and shopping.
According toThe Information, Google is building an intelligent assistant codenamed Project Jarvis, which works like Tony Stark's virtual assistant in the movieIron Man. In it, Google's AI assistant can respond to user commands and interpret them before performing actions such as pressing a button or typing into a text box.
Jarvis is currently designed to run on web browsers, specifically Chrome, to support common tasks like searching, shopping, and booking flights. Google plans to demonstrate Jarvis in December when it unveils its latest large language model, Gemini, according toThe Verge.
The Jarvis news comes days after prominent AI company Anthropic announced a similar feature for its Claude AI tool. Anthropic said its Claude AI has been equipped with computer skills to use a range of standard software programs. The feature is currently available in the company’s beta version.
Microsoft, which has invested in OpenAI, also intends to have its models autonomously browse the web with the help of computer-using agents (CUAs) and take action based on their findings. Other tech companies are also trying to go further in developing AI that can interact directly with a user’s computer or browser.
