The two sides have yet to agree on the terms of an AI deal, nor how it will be implemented. Bloomberg said Apple is likely to announce the deal in June, around the time of Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Apple has also recently been in talks with Microsoft-backed OpenAI, which it intends to use.

Apple, Google and OpenAI have not yet commented on the above information.

Apple is preparing new features for its upcoming iOS 18 operating system that will be based on its own versions of AI, but it is also looking for partners to provide general AI features, including those that generate images and text based on simple commands.

Last month, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company plans to reveal more about its plans for AI later this year, adding that the company is investing significantly in the area.

Apple has been slower to adopt general AI than rivals Microsoft and Google, which are integrating AI into their products. In January, Google partnered with Samsung to implement several general AI technologies on the Korean company's Galaxy S24 smartphone line.

Apple and Google have a deal that allows Google to be the default search engine on Apple’s Safari web browser. But regulators are closely monitoring the deal because the US and its allies say Google violates competition laws by paying billions of dollars to Apple and other business partners to ensure its search engine is the default on most phones and web browsers.
