Currently, schools in many district-level localities have received new textbooks, with only a few titles still missing.
New textbook prices are 2-3 times higher than old ones.
In Hai Duong city, the price of new textbooks for grades 4, 8 and 11 increased 2-3 times compared to the price of old books.
Depending on the "Knowledge Connection" or "Kite" book series commonly used in Hai Duong, the price of 4th grade textbooks ranges from 186,000 - 230,000 VND/set (not including exercise books from 156,000 - 230,000 VND/set); 8th grade textbooks range from 200,000 - 270,000 VND/set (not including exercise books from 200,000 - 270,000 VND/set); 11th grade textbooks range from 490,000 - 590,000 VND/set (not including specialized books about 230,000 VND/set).
According to Hai Duong Newspaper reporters, by August 15, most schools in Ninh Giang, Kim Thanh, Thanh Ha, Nam Sach, Cam Giang, Thanh Mien, Binh Giang districts, Kinh Mon town, and Chi Linh city had received textbooks for grades 4 and 8, with only a few books missing.
The missing books are mainly due to changes or additions from the initial registration, changes after enrollment of each school, or the supplier shipping the wrong books. In particular, grade 11 textbooks have arrived at most schools.
Schools in some remaining localities such as Tu Ky and Gia Loc have not received books. In Hai Duong City alone, most schools do not organize for parents to register to buy books for grades 4 and 8. Through instructions on the list of textbooks that the school will teach, groups of parents gather their needs to buy books together. Many groups of parents have been able to buy books because textbooks for grades 4 and 8 are available at bookstores in Hai Duong City.
The representative of the book supplier for most schools in Hai Duong said that they are gradually transferring books to the remaining localities and are trying to have enough books for all registered schools before the new school year starts. The slow supply of books depends on the publisher, so the unit will transfer books to the schools as soon as they arrive.
