Although winter vegetable prices are falling, Hai Duong farmers are not too sad because the early winter crop has brought high profits. Farmers are actively taking care of the next crop of vegetables to sell in time for Tet. In the photo: Traders buy kohlrabi right at the field in Le Loi commune (Gia Loc)

Compared to the beginning of the season, the prices of the above vegetables have dropped sharply. According to Mr. Pham Van Tinh, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Hung Dao Commune (Tu Ky), in recent days, kohlrabi has been purchased by traders at the field for 1,000 VND/root, down 2,000-3,000 VND/root, and cauliflower for 3,000 VND/plant, down 4,500 VND/plant.

In Le Loi commune (Gia Loc), cabbage is purchased by traders at the field for only 5,000 VND/kg, down 4,000 VND/kg compared to the beginning of the season.

At the beginning of the season, the prices of the above vegetables were good, and farmers earned a profit of 7-9 million VND/sao. With the current selling price, kohlrabi growers only break even, while cabbage and cauliflower still earn a profit of 3-4 million VND/sao.

Some traders said that compared to last year, this year's winter vegetables grew and developed well, with better appearance due to favorable weather. The area of winter vegetables this year in many localities in the province is larger than last year.

Besides, the abundant supply of winter vegetables in many provinces and cities has led to oversupply.

According to some farmers, the situation of winter vegetables losing value is not unusual. Every year at this time, the price of winter vegetables also decreases, and there are even periods when they cannot be sold and people have to throw them away.

Although vegetable prices are currently down, Hai Duong farmers are still actively planting and caring for the next winter vegetable crop to serve the Tet market because Tet vegetables usually have better prices than at present.

According to the reporter's investigation, some other major vegetable crops of Hai Duong such as carrots, onions, garlic... are also growing well, with few pests and diseases, and are expected to be harvested before and after Tet.
