On the evening of October 12, right after the 1-1 draw with India, striker Nguyen Van Quyet went to the sideline and announced that he would officially say goodbye to the Vietnamese national team.

He made his debut for the national team in 2011, under the guidance of coach Falko Gotz. In his first match as a starter for the Vietnamese team in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, Van Quyet scored 1 goal and contributed 1 assist in the victory over Macau.

After 60 matches for the national team, Van Quyet scored 16 goals, and with the "golden star warriors" competed in 5 AFF Cups, winning the championship in the 2018 tournament.

Van Quyet is considered a legend of Vietnamese football. He won many titles with Hanoi Club, from V.League, National Cup to Golden Ball.
