Elon Musk predicts the era of 'digital superintelligence' is coming

In a conversation with Congressman Mike Gallagher and Congressman Ro Khanna held on the Twitter Spaces platform on July 12, the owner of the Twitter social network and CEO of SpaceX and Tesla expressed his belief in the future of artificial intelligence (AI) and "digital superintelligence".

“The definition of digital superintelligence is that it is smarter than any human, in any domain. It doesn’t necessarily mean smarter than all humans combined. It’s a higher bar,” the 52-year-old billionaire explained.

The conversation came hours after Mr Musk announced the creation of a new artificial intelligence company called xAI, which aims to “understand the true nature of the universe”. He admitted that xAI is really just getting started and that it will take some time before it reaches the scale of some of the leading artificial intelligence companies.

During the talk, guests discussed the potential dangers and benefits of AI, as well as the need to develop various types of legal frameworks.

Mr Musk has also expressed a desire to establish some form of oversight over AI, similar to the regulation of nuclear technology.
