A Chinese rescue team successfully rescued a man alive from a hotel in Mandalay on the afternoon of April 2. He was the ninth person rescued by the Chinese rescue team and was an employee of the Golden Country Hotel. The man had been trapped for 120 hours but was in stable condition when he was rescued.

CIDCA spokesman Li Ming said China will send two more expert teams to Myanmar to assess damage and prevent epidemics after the disaster.

China was the first to announce emergency aid to Myanmar, the first to send rescue teams, and the first to rescue survivors after the earthquake. Yunnan Province in southwest China, which borders Myanmar, sent medical teams to its neighbor just 18 hours after the earthquake. China has so far sent more than 500 rescue workers, the largest number of rescuers and teams sent to Myanmar.

In addition, the China Rural Development Fund has coordinated with Nay Pu Township and Aung Thuka Pagoda in Mandalay to establish a temporary resettlement area. This is the first temporary resettlement area funded by a Chinese social organization after the earthquake and will be run by Myanmar.

Despite challenges such as disruptions in transportation and communication infrastructure, China successfully delivered its first batch of relief supplies, including 1,200 tents, 8,000 blankets, and more than 40,000 emergency relief kits, to Nay Pyi Taw on April 1, according to CIDCA. The relief supplies have been distributed to victims.

In addition, the Red Cross Society of China has provided 1.5 million yuan (US$206,700) in cash assistance. Yunnan Province has also donated 6.1 million yuan worth of relief goods to victims in Myanmar.
