Tutoring center in Ho Chi Minh City closed for teaching elementary school students

On February 18, Ms. Phan Thi Minh, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Binh Hung Hoa B Ward, Binh Tan District, said that the Trang Nguyen Cultural Training Center in the area was closed due to teaching extra Vietnamese language to elementary school students.

Previously, on the afternoon of February 17, the ward's working group conducted a surprise inspection and made a record of violations of Circular 29 on extra teaching and learning at this center.

To date, this is the first case of punishment announced.

According to Ms. Minh, at that time, the center's teachers were teaching 18 elementary school students, most of whom were studying Vietnamese. The teachers were not public school teachers and had labor contracts. The center also presented a business registration certificate and a fire prevention plan, but Circular 29 did not allow extra teaching for elementary school students.

Therefore, authorities requested the center to close and remove illegal advertising signs until the violations are corrected.

"The ward will ask the neighborhood and residential group to monitor this. If violations continue, we will propose revoking the license," said Ms. Minh.

Primary school students are prohibited from extra teaching and learning, except for activities to foster skills, talents, and sports according to Circular 29, effective from February 14, of the Ministry of Education and Training.

The Prime Minister requested localities to strictly implement regulations on extra teaching and learning. Violations must be strictly handled.
