Thrilling and dramatic with the hill climbing and obstacle overcoming performances of the racers in the final round of the off-road motorcycle race in Van Ho district, Son La province, on the morning of May 28.
Climbing dirt slopes requires athletes to have accurate timing, strong throttle, and steady hands to overcome.
This is the second year the VTV Cab - Off road motorcycle race has been held with 3 categories: open, semi-professional and professional. Racers participating in the VTV Cab 2023 off-road motorcycle race have given viewers eye-catching performances.
From early morning, many Son La people and tourists were present in the area around the race track to cheer for the 40 racers in the most intense competition.
In each system, athletes will have different race lengths. The race track includes many types of terrain including hills, dirt paths, and obstacles, with a total race length of 7km.
Racers must overcome many obstacles and different types of terrain to complete the race.
The professional race is 3 laps, equivalent to 21km. The semi-professional and open races are both 7km. The racer who completes the race in the shortest time wins.
During the first race, the racers tried their best and demonstrated their skills in overcoming dirt slopes, obstacles, mountain passes, sand caves, tea fields, corn fields, etc. They gave the audience dramatic racing scenes.
On the racetrack, racers need to be highly focused because if they miss a beat or have an accident, they will be left behind.
Dry, steep terrain challenges racers
The unique feature of this year's race is the beautiful natural scenery of the Northwest of Bo Nhang village (Van Ho district, Son La) and the enthusiastic cheering of local people and tourists.
After more than 3 hours of competition (in all 3 categories), the owners of the championship trophies were revealed. Racer Ben Spill won first place in the professional category with a racing time of 35 minutes and 59 seconds. Next, racer Tran Tung Lam excellently finished first in the semi-professional category and racer Nguyen Trong Quynh received the trophy in the open category.
"I feel great. The track is extremely hot, I didn't think I would win today. I really like the track, the climate and the warmth of the people here," Ben Spill shared.
Carrying his child and holding an umbrella to watch the off-road motorcycle race, Mr. Song A Quy (Van Ho district, Son La) said this was the first time he and his wife had seen this race.
"The racers are all very good, it's dangerous, some people fell but it's okay. There are a lot of people watching, it's fun," said Mr. Quy.
