TASS (Russia) quoted Mr. Peskov as saying: “There has been no discussion on this issue, and it has not been discussed. However, Minsk is clearly the best option for us. This is Russia’s biggest ally. Therefore, for Russia, Minsk is the most ideal place for negotiations.”

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said that Minsk is ready to host talks between the parties concerned on a peace deal for Ukraine. Mr Lukashenko said that Minsk is a suitable location because it is close to Kiev and also a place where the parties can sit down and discuss things calmly.

In another development, on March 4, in a speech before both houses of the US Congress, President Donald Trump said he had received a letter from his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky.

In the letter, the Ukrainian leader stressed his readiness to negotiate immediately to bring about a lasting peace. In addition, President Zelensky made it clear that he was ready to sign the security and mineral agreement at any time that suits the US side.

On the same day, March 4, the Kremlin expressed "optimism" about President Trump's announcement that the Ukrainian leader was ready to participate in peace talks with Russia.

In his regular address to the Ukrainian people on the evening of March 4, Ukrainian President Zelensky declared his readiness to "do the right thing" with President Trump, and affirmed his readiness to cooperate with Washington to ensure lasting peace for Ukraine.

Previously, President Trump stopped all military aid to Ukraine, after a tense debate between him and his Ukrainian counterpart Zelensky at the White House on February 28.
