In the first 4 days of 2024, on average, Hai Duong Children's Hospital received 15-20 children with influenza A admitted for treatment each day, some of whom were only 1-2 years old, the oldest being 11 years old. Most patients were admitted to the hospital with a high fever of over 39 degrees Celsius, coughing, and in some cases, convulsions.

On January 4, the Infectious Diseases and Gastroenterology Departments of the hospital were treating about 75 children with influenza A. Doctors said that many sick children were treated at home for many days without getting better before being brought to the hospital.

Reporters' observations at some kindergartens and primary schools in Hai Duong City show that many students have to stay home from school because of influenza A. In the community, many families have both adults and children suffering from this disease.

The influenza A epidemic in Hai Duong began in late November 2023 and has continued until now with a high number of children hospitalized. Many doctors believe that the influenza A epidemic in Hai Duong is at its peak.

If not treated promptly, influenza A can cause dangerous complications such as encephalitis, myocarditis, respiratory failure, severe pneumonia, etc. This is an infectious disease, so people with the disease should limit contact with crowded places. Families with sick children need to pay attention to environmental hygiene, ensure nutrition, and daily hygiene for children according to the doctor's recommendations, and not buy medicine for treatment on their own.
