Phu Tho Provincial Police proposed to prosecute 73 defendants in a transnational drug case, of which 29 defendants were proposed to be prosecuted with the highest penalty being the death penalty.
Recently, the Investigation Police Agency, Phu Tho Provincial Police issued an investigation conclusion, transferring it to the Provincial People's Procuracy to propose prosecuting 73 defendants in a large-scale transnational drug case.
The defendants were prosecuted for the crimes of: Illegal drug trafficking, illegal possession of drugs, and illegal possession of military weapons.
Of these, 29 defendants were proposed to be prosecuted under Clause 4, Article 251 of the Penal Code, with the highest penalty being death penalty.
This is the case with the largest number of defendants ever in the province and is among the largest drug cases in the country.
From the process of fighting and destroying a drug retail point in Cam Khe district and identifying the ringleader as Hoang Van Thu (born in 1977, residing in Tung Khe commune, Cam Khe district), the investigation agency determined that this was a link in a large-scale inter-provincial drug trafficking ring.
On June 3, 2024, the Director of Phu Tho Provincial Police decided to establish a special project, assigning the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department to preside over the investigation and destruction.
Seized evidence included more than 27 heroin cakes (nearly 8 kg), more than 278,000 pink pills (more than 25 kg), crystal meth (624 grams), Ketamine (6.5 kg), methamphetamine, ecstasy, cocaine, marijuana, opium; 1 pill press, 1 pill press, 5 guns (including 2 military weapons), 20 bullets, 5 cars, more than 100 phones.
The amount of money frozen and temporarily detained is about 2 billion VND.
