Sergio Ramos received a red card in Sevilla's 1-2 loss to Real Sociedad in round 14 of La Liga last night.
In the 88th minute of the match against Sevilla, Real Sociedad had a dangerous attack. Brais Mendez was brought down by Sergio Ramos. Initially, the main referee, Miguel Ortiz, gave a yellow card to the Sevilla midfielder. When VAR intervened, the referee overturned Ramos' yellow card and changed it to a straight red card.
The former Real Madrid captain deserved to be sent off. It was a tackle in which Ramos showed no intention of pulling his leg back when he made contact with his opponent. This tackle could have seriously injured Mendez.
Ramos fouled
According to statistics ofMister Chip, Ramos has reached the milestone of 30 times being sent off in official matches. This is an "achievement" that no other Spanish player has achieved.
Ramos has previously been sent off once for Sevilla B, 26 times for Real Madrid, twice for PSG and once for Sevilla. In La Liga alone, Ramos holds the record with 21 dismissals. Interestingly, Ramos has never received a red card for the Spanish national team.
Immediately after Ramos' red card, veteran Jesus Navas was also sent off for protesting. Both of Sevilla's oldest players, Ramos (37 years, 241 days) and Navas (38 years, 5 days), received red cards.
With nine men on the pitch, Sevilla could not turn the tables against Sociedad. The home team at Sanchez Pizjuan has not won for the fifth consecutive match and is stuck in 16th place in the rankings. Meanwhile, Sociedad is still chasing the top 4 of La Liga with 6 points less.
