23 years ago, Ms. Nguyen Thi Xanh (born in 1981, Binh Thuan) was pregnant when her husband left her and her whereabouts were unknown. She gave birth to her child in a life of poverty.

Unable to raise a young child and take care of her stroke-stricken grandmother at the same time, her relatives advised her to send her child to an orphanage.

When her daughter Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh was 5 days old, Ms. Xanh swallowed her tears and asked relatives to take the baby to a nursery.

When the baby was over 1 year old, she intended to take her home but circumstances did not allow it. At the same time, a Danish couple wanted to adopt Oanh.

Ms. Xanh said: “Thinking back and forth, I see that if my child goes abroad, the future will be more open. I don’t want my child to live a miserable life like me.”

The day Oanh followed her adoptive parents back to Denmark, Ms. Xanh came to see her and took a souvenir photo. For the past 23 years, she has always kept her daughter's photo with her.

Later, Ms. Xanh married her current husband and had 5 children. Although she was busy taking care of her children, she never forgot her firstborn.

Therefore, her husband and children always urged and created conditions for her to find Oanh. Many times, she went to the authorities, where the records of Oanh's adoption were kept, to inquire. This agency said they could not contact Oanh's adoptive parents.

When she went to the orphanage, the staff there said that every 1-2 years, the foster parents would bring Oanh back to visit everyone once. However, for the past 4 years, they have not seen Oanh and her foster parents return here. During the visits, the foster parents did not mention finding Oanh's biological mother.

Hearing this, Ms. Xanh thought her daughter was angry and did not want to find her biological mother. That made her desperate and she stopped searching.

The adoptive parents took their daughter to Denmark to live. Oanh was renamed Alex Pedersen.

Even though she changed her name, Oanh was always aware that she was adopted. Her adoptive parents did not hide this from her.

For many years, Oanh tried to find her biological parents in Binh Thuan. However, her adoptive parents advised Oanh to focus on her studies. When she graduated and had a job, Oanh would look for her parents.

Keeping her promise to her adoptive parents, Oanh immediately continued her journey to find her roots by asking an acquaintance in Vietnam to post information about her mother on social media.

Oanh's information to find her mother is very urgent: "Looking for mother named: Nguyen Thi Xanh, born in 1981 or 1982, in 2001 living in Ray hamlet, Hong Liem commune, Ham Thuan Bac district, Binh Thuan province.

The child's name is Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh, born in 2001, when she was 5 days old, she was given up for adoption in Denmark. In the application, the mother wrote that because of difficult circumstances, having no husband, she was unable to raise her child, so she gave her child up for adoption abroad.

Now that I have grown up, I want to know about my roots and who my mother is, so I ask for everyone's help. I sincerely thank you."

After 1 hour of posting, both Oanh and Ms. Xanh received the news that "relatives were found" at around 12 noon on October 22.

Ms. Xanh shared: “I was so happy that my blood pressure dropped and I couldn’t walk. I thought my daughter hated me, but I still held out hope of finding her.

Now, I am satisfied. We have been chatting online. Oanh constantly says she loves and cares for her mother. She also says she does not blame her mother.

As soon as she saw Oanh's face, Ms. Xanh knew that she was her daughter. Oanh resembled her from her eyes to her mouth.

She said: “We don’t need a DNA test because mother and daughter look very much alike and the information matches completely. We both keep photos of Oanh when she was just over 1 year old.”

For Oanh, finding her mother after only 1 hour was truly unbelievable. She was happy, overwhelmed with joy.

“I understand my mother’s situation when she gave me up for adoption. I am not sad or angry with her. Why should I be angry with my mother? I have never and will never do that,” Oanh confided.

Oanh plans to return to Binh Thuan to visit her mother next year. Hearing this news, Ms. Xanh is very excited and looking forward to it. So, mother and daughter will be reunited after 23 years apart.
