Cong Phuong leaves his mark in Yokohama FC's victory

Ahead of the 2023 J.League kick-off, Yokohama FC had a practice match with Honda Lock FC. This was an opportunity for the J.League newcomers to test their squad before the new season starts.

In this match, Cong Phuong was given the opportunity to enter the field. The new striker from Vietnam had a relatively good performance. Cong Phuong left his mark in the home team's victory by assisting his teammate to score.

After receiving the ball on the left wing, Cong Phuong went into the middle before making a favorable pass for Brazilian rookie Mauricio Caprini Pinto to finish neatly and score.

Yokohama won 2-0 overall against Honda Lock FC. Cong Phuong's impressive performance showed that this striker has integrated well with his teammates at Yokohama FC.

Previously, Coach Shuhei Yomoda praised Cong Phuong in an interview on Yokohama FC's homepage. The Japanese coach assessed that Cong Phuong is integrating well and helping the team increase squad depth.

“I am very happy that Cong Phuong has joined the team. He is a good player and is eager to learn. He will help Yokohama FC's attacking options become more diverse,” said coach Shuhei Yomoda. The Yokohama FC captain added: “After 3 weeks of getting acquainted, Cong Phuong is adapting quickly to the team. Although there are still some shortcomings, I believe Cong Phuong can overcome them and will help the team move forward.”

Cong Phuong joined Yokohama FC on a free transfer after his contract with HAGL expired. The contract between the Nghe An striker and the Japanese team is for 2 years. This is the 4th time in his career that Cong Phuong has played abroad. Previously, this striker went abroad to play for Mito HollyHock (2016), Incheon United (2019) and Sint-Truidense (2019).

According to the schedule, Yokohama FC will start the opening round of J.League 1 season 2023 by hosting Nagoya at home stadium Spring Mitsuzawa on February 18.
