The rain sensor is an electronic device installed on the windshield of a car. This device is capable of detecting rain and activating the automatic wiper system.

Many new car models today are equipped with rain wiper sensors to enhance the user experience.
Car wiper sensor consists of 3 main parts: infrared light, optical diode and electronic control module.
The wiper sensor works based on the mechanism of detecting changes in light when it is projected through the car's windshield. This sensor uses infrared light to emit a beam of light that is projected onto the windshield. If the glass surface is transparent, the infrared beam will be reflected back into the optical diode with near maximum intensity.
If water appears on the windshield, the water will change the reflective surface, causing some of the infrared beam to pass through instead of being reflected. At this time, the photodiode will receive the light beam with a lower intensity.
The intensity of the reflected light received by the photodiode will generate a voltage inside the electronic module. The stronger the reflected light, the higher the voltage. The weaker the reflected light, the lower the voltage.
The electronic module is programmed according to the principle that when the voltage is lower than the set threshold (weak reflected light), the wiper motor will be activated. The weaker the reflected light, the higher the speed and frequency of the wiper operation. Modern wiper sensors also have the ability to measure humidity directly on the windshield.
Car wiper sensors have many advantages to support drivers, especially those who often travel in erratic weather conditions.
With a rain sensor, the car's wiper system is automatically activated in case the windshield is wet. Thanks to that, the driver does not need to worry about turning the wiper switch on/off and can concentrate more on driving.
Some drivers traveling on the road in heavy rain or fog may be confused when turning on the wipers. But with the rain sensor, this problem has been solved. The driver can completely concentrate on the road without being distracted by changes in the amount of rain on the glass. Accordingly, the journey is safer and the driving experience is also enhanced.
When the glass is clean, the wipers will automatically turn off, very convenient.
Therefore, if you often travel in erratic weather, installing a car wiper sensor is necessary.
