Storms may affect mainland Vietnam

Commenting on the weather in November, Deputy Head of Climate Forecasting Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Nguyen Duc Hoa said that in November, there is a possibility of about 1-2 storms and tropical depressions appearing in the East Sea and they may affect the mainland of Vietnam.

Regarding the temperature situation, Mr. Nguyen Duc Hoa said that the temperature in the Northern, North and Central Central regions is generally 1-2 degrees Celsius higher than the average of many years. The temperature in the South Central, Central Highlands and Southern regions is generally 0.5-1 degrees Celsius higher than the average of many years in the same period.

In November, total rainfall in the Northwest region and the Thanh Hoa-North Nghe An region was generally lower than the average of many years (10-20% lower), in the Northeast region it was lower by 15-30%; the area from South Nghe An-Quang Tri was generally above the average of many years (5-15% higher).

Other places in the Central and Northern Central Highlands regions are generally at a level approximately below the average of many years (10-25% lower). The Southern Central Highlands and the Southeast regions are approximately above the average of many years (10-20% higher), with the Southwest region being 20-30% higher.

"In November, cold air continues to increase in frequency but the intensity of cold air waves is unlikely to be strong. Moderate and heavy rains are still likely to occur in the Central region, while the Central Highlands and the South will see many days of showers and thunderstorms, concentrated in the first half of the month. Thunderstorms, tornadoes and lightning, possibly accompanied by hail, will continue to occur nationwide," Mr. Nguyen Duc Hoa noted.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Hoa, storms, tropical depressions, and cold air can cause strong winds and large waves, affecting maritime activities and fishing activities at sea of fishermen. This period is also the main rainy season in the Central region, so heavy rains due to the influence of weather patterns such as cold air combined with tropical convergence zones and high-altitude easterly wind disturbances will still occur in the area, so it is necessary to guard against the risk of flash floods and landslides in this area. In addition, dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, and hail can affect production and people's activities.

To proactively respond to and minimize natural disaster damage, hydrometeorological experts recommend that authorities and people regularly monitor forecast and warning information on the website of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting at nchmf.gov.vn, provincial, municipal and regional hydrometeorological stations and on official central and local mass media.

The government and relevant agencies need to promptly provide disaster forecast information to the people, direct disaster prevention and control work in various forms; mobilize, propagate and implement an absolute ban on people's activities in areas at high risk of thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail, flash floods, landslides, etc.

People need to strictly follow the instructions of local authorities on disaster response and prevention.
