A ferry in Tam Hai island commune (Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam) was carrying 14 people and many motorbikes across the river when it sank. Fortunately, all the victims were rescued.
On the afternoon of December 23, Mr. Le Van Sinh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Nui Thanh district (Quang Nam) said that the local government and border guards are actively coordinating to salvage assets and rescue victims after the ferry sinking incident that just occurred in Tam Hai island commune.
Initial information, at around 7am the same day, the wooden ferry from Binh Trung village to Xuan My (Tam Hai commune) owned by Mr. Nguyen Nh. (born in 1966, residing in Tam Hai commune), registration number 0886, was carrying passengers across the Truong Giang river when it suddenly encountered an accident and sank.
At the time of the incident, it was raining heavily, there were 14 people and 12 motorbikes on the ferry.
Fortunately, there were no casualties in this accident. However, many motorbikes and people's property fell into the river and were damaged.
Currently, authorities are actively salvaging property after the ferry sank.
It is known that the sunken ferry was a self-propelled wooden boat, on the route from Binh Trung (Tam Hai) to Xuan My village (Tam Hai), managed by the People's Committee of Tam Hai commune. This ferry route has been extended to operate as a cross-river passenger wharf until the end of August 2027. In 2012, the People's Committee of Nui Thanh district implemented socialization and organized a bidding for private operators to operate this ferry route.
