Methane gas fire in a mine in Quang Ninh, 4 coal workers died

Four workers of Thong Nhat Coal Company - TKV were digging a tunnel when suddenly methane gas caught fire, leading to their deaths.

On April 3, Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (LĐ-TB&XH) of Quang Ninh, Nguyen Hoai Son, confirmed that the incident occurred at 0:20 a.m. the same day at the XV5-140 furnace mirror No. 2, tunnel digging workshop 2 of Thong Nhat Coal Company - TKV (Cam Pha City, Quang Ninh).

Immediately after receiving information about the incident, Quang Ninh Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Xuan Ky directed and assigned provincial leaders to go to the scene to direct rescue efforts.

Initial investigation determined the cause of the incident was a methane gas fire that killed four workers.

The victims include: TVB (born in 1989, residing in Luc Hon commune, Binh Lieu, Quang Ninh), NTL (born in 1987, residing in Doan Hung, Phu Tho), TVN (born in 1990, residing in Pho Yen, Thai Nguyen) and LVH (born in 1991, residing in Hoa An, Cao Bang).

At 3:15 a.m. the same day, the search and rescue work ended and the victims' bodies were brought to the scene for interrogation.

"Currently, the authorities are coordinating with Thong Nhat Coal Company - TKV to help bring the people back to their families and take care of the funeral. The cause of the incident is being investigated by the authorities," said Mr. Son.
