On the morning of November 7, Mr. Tran Ngoc Lanh, Head of the Economic - Infrastructure Department of Vi Xuyen district (Ha Giang), said that Lung Cang bridge in Thuan Hoa commune collapsed last night, fortunately causing no human casualties.
Today, the district inspection team went to the scene to determine the cause and find a solution.
At the scene, the new bridge had completed two piers, and the construction unit was building a suspension span across the stream. At the time of the incident, the stream water was low and it was not raining.
The heavy rains and floods on June 9-10 caused the Lung Cang suspension bridge to collapse, isolating more than 70 households. Every day, people cling to the broken bridge or use rafts to cross the stream, causing safety risks. Therefore, Vi Xuyen district has called on donors to support the construction of a new bridge.
On July 7, the new Lung Cang bridge with reinforced concrete structure, 44 m long, 3.5 m wide, 10-ton load capacity, started construction with a budget of about 3 billion VND, of which the benefactor supported 2 billion, Vi Xuyen district contributed 1 billion. The project is expected to be completed in 3-4 months.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, leaders of Vi Xuyen district assessed that when completed, the new bridge will practically serve the households of Lung Cang and Lung Buong villages and the people in the commune.
