Underpass under construction on Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway project collapsed

On the evening of September 16, Mr. Hoang Van Hai - Deputy Head of the Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Traffic Works in Tuyen Quang province confirmed: The tunnel collapse occurred at the construction site of the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway, through Yen Son district, Tuyen Quang province.

"I am at the scene," said Mr. Hai, adding that he would provide details later.

General Van Bich, Party cell secretary of Khe Dang village, Tu Quan commune (Yen Son district) confirmed that the above incident occurred in the area at around 7:00 p.m. tonight. Mr. Bich also confirmed that there were people injured in the accident.

A representative of the Ministry of Transport said that the incident occurred in Tuyen Quang province. “This is a bid package invested by the People’s Committee of Tuyen Quang province. The Ministry of Transport is currently requesting a report from the locality,” said a representative of the Ministry of Transport.

The Tuyen Quang-Ha Giang Expressway project has a total length of nearly 105km, a scale of two lanes, a total investment of about 10,000 billion VND, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

The project has been added by the Prime Minister to the list of important national projects and works, key to the transport sector.

The section passing through Tuyen Quang province alone is 77km long, with an investment of about 6,800 billion VND. Of which, the central budget capital is nearly 4,500 billion VND, and the local budget capital is more than 2,300 billion VND.

Phase 1, the project has a design scale of 2 motor vehicle lanes, asphalt concrete road surface structure.
