Cao Bang Provincial Center for Disease Control said that the locality has recorded a death case, suspected to be due to measles.
Baby HAQ (born in 2023, residing in Ban Oong, Son Lap commune, Bao Lac district, Cao Bang province) fell ill on March 7 but was not taken to Pac Nam District Medical Center, Bac Kan province for examination and treatment until 9:30 a.m. on March 10.
The patient was admitted to the hospital with pale skin, dry lips, cyanosis, and an unconscious state. He was diagnosed with acute respiratory failure, pneumonia, high fever, and measles (the patient had not yet had a sample taken for testing). Despite emergency care and intensive treatment, his condition did not improve and he died at 9:30 p.m. the same day. The cause of death was determined to be late admission while the patient had complications of severe pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, and severe dehydration.
Ms. Be Thi Bach, Director of the Cao Bang Provincial Center for Disease Control, said that from the beginning of 2025 to March 17, 2025, Cao Bang detected nearly 2,640 cases of measles in many localities. After receiving information from the Bao Lac District Health Center, the Director of the Cao Bang Department of Health urgently directed the Provincial Center for Disease Control to establish a working group to go directly to Son Lap Commune, Bao Lac District to monitor, direct and support the Son Lap Commune Health Station and Bao Lac District Health Center in disease prevention and control in the area.
Previously, the Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control of Cao Bang province directed the Health Centers of districts and cities in general and the Health Center of Bao Lac district in particular to strengthen measures to prevent and control the epidemic, and at the same time proposed the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology to provide additional measles vaccines to organize a measles vaccination campaign. People are advised to go to medical facilities immediately when showing signs of the disease for timely examination and treatment to limit dangerous complications.
