Cleaning velvet does not require special equipment or cleaning products, but it does require a little patience and time.

Once considered a piece of furniture for the rich, velvet furniture is now popular in every home, from beds, chairs, blankets, pillows... Velvet furniture is luxurious, often comes in many colors and is relatively easy to care for.

In terms of composition, velvet is made from many different materials such as silk, wool, cotton, and artificial silk. Each type of velvet will have its own characteristics and features, so when buying a velvet interior product, you can rely on the characteristics of the fiber structure printed on the accompanying tag to distinguish the product material. For example, if it is a product you use every day, especially in a house with children and pets, you should choose velvet from synthetic fibers, because they are easy to clean and retain color better...

How to clean velvet properly?

For all velvet upholstered furniture, you should vacuum weekly. This will help prevent the product from smelling or fading.

Depending on the frequency of use, you can use a hand steamer (the kind that irons clothes) to make velvet new and beautiful. In case something is spilled on the velvet surface, immediately absorb it with a paper towel, absolutely avoid rubbing. When velvet furniture begins to fade and become dirty, you need to thoroughly clean the product.

Deep cleaning is carried out as follows.

Tools needed:

Handheld vacuum cleaner with plastic nozzle, handheld steam iron, microfiber cloth, dishwashing liquid, paper towels, knife or spoon.

Work to be done:

- Vacuum weekly. Use a handheld vacuum cleaner, starting from the top to the bottom of the furniture, such as a sofa, bed, etc. Use a plastic nozzle for the vacuum cleaner to clean the crevices and gaps in the furniture.

- Use a steam iron to remove wrinkles. Velvet is prone to wrinkling, and if the wrinkles are not removed early, they can remain on the fabric. Therefore, a steam iron is very useful. However, you should set the machine at a low temperature to avoid burning the fabric fibers. Move the steam iron from left to right or from top to bottom, using your hand to gently stroke the surface in the opposite direction to release the wrinkles on the velvet surface.

- Treat stains. You should use a towel to absorb stains as soon as they appear. After one soak, use another towel to absorb or turn the towel over, until the velvet surface is completely dry. Never rub stains with force, it will damage the surface layer.

To tackle stubborn stains, mix a few drops of dishwashing liquid into a large cup of warm water and whisk until the solution foams. Dip a soft microfiber cloth into it until it is damp, then blot the stained area with it. Let it air dry.

Schedule a general cleaning

Instead of just cleaning one part of your velvet furniture, you should schedule an overall cleaning of the chair, which will help the surface of the product to be more even in color.
