Due to a problem with the radiator of the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft, the mission of the two astronauts had to be extended and will therefore end on September 27 instead of March 2023 as planned.
On September 11, the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) said that two astronauts Sergey Prokopyev and Dmitry Petelin will break the record for the number of times a Russian astronaut stays on the International Space Station (ISS).
According to Roscosmos, cosmonauts Prokopyev and Petelin will join the ISS in September 2022 and their stay there was originally scheduled to last until March 2023.
However, due to a problem with the radiator of the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft, the mission of the two astronauts had to be extended and will end on September 27.
The record for the longest stay on the ISS by a Russian cosmonaut is currently held by cosmonaut Pyotr Dubrov, at 355 days, 3 hours, 45 minutes and 21 seconds.
However, Russian cosmonaut Valery Polykov has held the world record for time spent in space since 1995.
He lived and worked continuously for 437 days, 17 hours, 58 minutes and 17 seconds on the Mir space station. This station has now been dismantled.
