The Ministry of Health requires medical units to prepare plans for admission, emergency care, isolation, and treatment in the event of an increase in suspected measles cases, measles patients coming to the hospital for examination and hospitalization, and an increase in severe and critical cases.
On March 29, the Ministry of Health sent an urgent dispatch to directors of medical examination and treatment facilities under the Ministry of Health; directors of health departments of provinces and centrally run cities; and heads of health departments of ministries on strengthening the work of triage, admission, treatment and control of measles infection in medical examination and treatment facilities.
According to the Ministry of Health, due to the increasing and prolonged development of measles in most provinces and cities in recent months, especially the high number of measles patients in the first quarter of 2025 compared to 2024, there have been a number of deaths related to measles.
The Ministry of Health requests directors of medical examination and treatment facilities under the Ministry of Health and directors of health departments of provinces and cities to direct medical examination and treatment facilities to develop, review, and update plans for measles prevention and control in medical examination and treatment facilities.
Medical units are prepared with plans for admission, emergency care, isolation, and treatment in case of an increase in suspected measles cases, measles patients coming for medical examination and hospitalization, and an increase in severe and critical cases.
Regarding the organization of screening, admission, isolation, and treatment of measles, the Ministry of Health requires the organization of screening and arrangement of separate examination areas in the examination department for people suspected of having measles and people with measles.
Implement professional decentralization in measles examination and treatment in accordance with the Guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of measles issued in Decision No. 1019/QD-BYT dated March 26, 2025 of the Minister of Health.
Medical facilities arrange isolated measles treatment areas in the infectious disease department, pediatrics department or isolation areas of clinical departments.
For severe measles cases requiring intensive care, the hospital must arrange a treatment area in the intensive care unit/department, or an intensive care unit/bed in the infectious disease department... and must ensure isolation and infection control to prevent cross-infection.
Hospitals organize departmental, inter-departmental, and hospital consultations according to regulations or request professional support from other medical examination and treatment facilities when requested. Adjust the size of hospital beds, add appropriate human resources, and comply with current regulations to meet treatment needs, reduce the workload for medical staff, and avoid cross-infection.
Regarding communication, medical examination and treatment facilities should implement diverse communication measures (such as through loudspeakers, posters, leaflets, websites, fanpages, etc., and direct instructions) so that patients, patients' relatives, medical staff, trainees, and students can clearly understand measles and measures to prevent and control measles, and the effectiveness of measles vaccination.
Medical facilities organize guidance and recommendations for patients' families, people suspected of having measles, and people with measles to apply measures to reduce the spread of the disease such as wearing masks, covering mouths when sneezing, etc.
