Swindled by fake electricity employee for more than 61 million VND

Hai Duong City Police have just received a case of property fraud handed over by Tan Binh Ward Police.

According to the victim's report, Ms. D.TNY, born in 1989, living in Binh Loc Street (Tan Binh Ward), at 4:47 p.m. on February 7, she received a call from the phone number 0815816259. The person introduced herself as an electricity employee, informing her that she had not paid her electricity bill for January 2025 and needed to pay to avoid power outage.

After that, Ms. D.TNY installed the payment app as instructed by the subject on her mobile phone, her personal information was appropriated and over 21 million VND was withdrawn from her Agribank account and 40.5 million VND was deposited online in Sacombank. The total amount of money appropriated was over 61.8 million VND.

After more than a week of being scammed, Ms. D.TNY went to the police station to report.

The police said that gullible people easily fall into the trap because the subject reads the personal information accurately, making the victim trust and follow. People's information is currently being leaked, so the subjects use it for fraudulent purposes. Therefore, people need to be more vigilant and cautious when communicating with users of strange phone numbers.

Impersonating electricity employees and other scams on the internet have been continuously propagated by the press, the electricity industry and the police force, but many people do not keep up to date and still fall into the trap.
