Hai Duong General Hospital is lacking blood reserves due to the high demand for blood and blood products for emergency and treatment during the Lunar New Year.
According to a representative of Hai Duong General Hospital, as of January 24, the hospital only had more than 200 units of blood left in reserve, while in the first days of the month the unit had received nearly 1,200 units of blood.
Since January 15, the demand for blood and blood products for emergency and treatment has increased 1.5 times compared to before. The reason is that many traffic accidents require urgent blood transfusions due to the high demand for travel during the Tet holiday. Patients who need regular blood transfusions for medical treatment want to have blood transfusions before Tet. Meanwhile, at this time, agencies and units do not organize voluntary blood donations.
Currently, the Provincial General Hospital is seriously lacking blood type O. The hospital contacted the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion to buy blood reserves but there is no more.
During the Tet holiday, to ensure enough blood units for emergency care, the Provincial General Hospital will mobilize live blood from hospital staff and medical workers. At the same time, it will contact blood donation clubs in the province to have blood for timely emergency care.
