Son Tung M-TP and his younger brother Mono were both nominated in the MV of the Year category at the 2024 Green Wave Awards.
The videos "Finding Love" (directed by Jake Nam) by Mono, "Don't Make My Heart Hurt" (directed by Watt Chaiwat) by Son Tung M-TP, "Hoa Ca" - the show "Anh Trai Vu Vu Ngan Cong Gai", "Khong Ra Gi" - Truc Nhan, "Nang Cup Tieu Sau" (directed by Phuong Vu) by Bich Phuong are in the top 5 nominees for MV of the year.
Don't Make My Heart Hurt is also nominated in two categories: Song of the Year and Phenomenal Song, while Looking for Love Mixing and matching competition.
The MV "Don't Make My Heart Hurt" was released in June this year. According to statistics site Kworb, the video topped YouTube after less than a day of release with 5.3 million views.
Previously, the video reached top 1 trending on YouTube Vietnam after two hours of release - the fastest ever, breaking Jack's record with the audio version of Fireflies (2020).
The MV also entered the trending list of many countries such as Australia, Singapore, Korea, Japan, Canada. Dung Lam Trai Tim Anh Dau topped digital music systems in Vietnam such as iTunes, Spotify. The song marks the return of Son Tung M-TP with the pop ballad genre, with a vibrant sound.
At the end of August this year, Mono released the video Looking for Love, exploits the dance-pop genre mixed with retro funk and disco funk. The lyrics express a young person's message about love, from waiting to actively seeking happiness in life.
Not only investing in the audio, the singer also performed two street dance moves: popping and locking. The image of him wearing a classic vest with flared pants, dancing with humorous expressions in the MV was loved by the audience.
The song entered the top 9 of Itunes Vietnam after 24 hours and was in the top 13 trending videos on YouTube after three days of release.
At the ceremony to announce the categories on the afternoon of December 18 in Ho Chi Minh City, many artists and music producers said that the Award Voting Council would have difficulty choosing a winning work and artist from the list of nominees because all of them deserved the award for keeping up with the trends of Gen Z youth and creating an effect on music platforms.
The organizers also announced to honor two veteran musicians Duong Thu and Bao Chan with the Green Wave Achievement Award to recognize their great contributions to music. Over the decades, the compositions of the two musicians have not only created marks for the program but also become a launching pad for a series of singers.
Green Wave is a music award organized by Ho Chi Minh City People's Radio Station since 1997.
