Egypt's foreign minister has warned of the risk of all-out war.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on September 22 warned of the risk of a full-scale war in the region as fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon continues to escalate dangerously, stressing that the current escalation "negatively affects" ceasefire negotiations in Gaza.
Mr. Abdelatty issued the warning ahead of the annual meeting of world leaders at the United Nations headquarters in New York (USA), with many powers calling on Israel and Hezbollah to move away from the brink of a regional war.
Speaking to reporters at the United Nations headquarters in New York (USA), Mr. Abdelatty stated: "There is great concern about the possibility of escalation in the region leading to a full-scale war in the region. The latest increase in violence has negatively impacted ceasefire negotiations in Gaza. But Egypt, together with Qatar and the United States, has full determination and commitment to continue efforts to broker a ceasefire agreement."
For months, Egypt, Qatar and the United States have been trying to broker talks to secure a ceasefire and a hostage exchange between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
However, Mr Abdelatty said that "all the components of the deal are ready", "the problem is the lack of political will on the Israeli side".
He also blamed Israel's policies and actions for the fierce fighting with Hezbollah, an ally of Hamas.
