9 Vietnamese students won gold medals at the International Math and Science Olympiad

The Hanoi Department of Education and Training said on the afternoon of October 6 that among the students who won gold medals, 6 were in math, the rest were in science.

The students who won the highest prizes in math were Nguyen Hoang Bach and Nguyen Duc Minh (Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted), Le Ky Nam and Truong Manh Quan (Newton Secondary - High School), Phan Hoang Minh (Hoang Mai Star Primary, Secondary and High School), Nguyen Phuong Thao (The Olympia Schools). Nguyen Hoang Bach also won the excellent prize in the Discovery test.

In science, the gold medals went to three students: Dao Trong Cuong and Nguyen Minh Khoi (Newton Secondary - High School), Trinh Nguyen Hai Minh (Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted). Trong Cuong also won the excellent prize for the Theory exam.

In addition, 14 Vietnamese students won silver medals and one received a bronze medal. This achievement is better than last year, when the Vietnamese team won 8 gold medals, 13 silver medals and three bronze medals.

The International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) is a prestigious mathematics and science competition for students under 13 years old around the world. Vietnam has sent students to participate in this competition since 2014.

The 21st IMSO took place from October 1 to 6 in Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China, attracting 300 contestants from 18 countries.

The 24 students of the Vietnamese team are mainly in grades 6-7, with only two in grade 5. They had to go through a selection round before competing internationally.
