Hair expert Steve Rowbottom advises on how to use conditioner and oils to keep hair smooth, strong and healthy.
Use a soft, absorbent, microfiber towel to dry your hair.
1. Use conditioner properly
Conditioner is designed to moisturize the ends of your hair, not your roots or scalp. When using conditioner, apply it only to the ends of your hair, not to your scalp. Leave the conditioner on your hair for a few minutes before rinsing it off with cool water.
2. Use hair conditioner
Like conditioner, hair oil should only be applied to the ends of the hair, not directly to the roots. Hair care experts point out that the way to get the most out of hair oil is to use it before shampooing. Apply the oil to the ends of the hair, then tie it up and cover it with a shower cap. The steam and oil will help make your hair healthier and softer.
3. Choose the right type of hair tie
If you often tie your hair, you should choose elastic bands made of soft fabric or silk instead of plastic. Soft hair ties help prevent creases in the hair, helping to reduce hair breakage.
4. Sun protection for hair
Your hair and scalp need sun protection just like your face and body. Use hair care products with SPF and wear a hat when you go outside to protect your hair from the sun's harmful rays.
5. Use a wide-toothed comb
A wide-tooth comb is a professional-recommended product for hairstylists. It can be used to detangle wet hair or to help distribute nutrients after applying a conditioner.
6. Brush your hair properly
The way to brush your hair to reduce breakage is to brush slowly, section by section, from the ends to the roots. If your hair is very tangled, you can use a hair spray to moisten it and then brush each small section to untangle it. Make sure your hairbrush is cleaned regularly to avoid introducing bacteria and dirt into your hair.
7. Choose the right type of cleaning cloth
Drying your hair with a rough cloth towel can cause tangles and breakage. Use a towel with small, absorbent fibers to absorb water from your hair. When drying your hair, gently pat it from the roots to the ends, avoiding rubbing your hair too hard.
8. Use the dryer properly
To limit the harmful effects of the dryer on your hair, you should dry your hair 50-60% before using the dryer. Keep the dryer at least 30cm away from your scalp and do not use too much heat. Only use the dryer to dry 1/2 of the hair length from the roots, do not dry the ends of your hair with the dryer to avoid dry, brittle hair and hair loss.
