Live voicemail, StandBy… are notable features of iOS 17, the platform that Apple has just announced and will be available on iPhone in September.

The new generation operating system iOS 17 was introduced by Apple at WWDC 2023 last week, bringing many features and upgrades that are considered useful for iPhone.

Changes in iOS 17 introduced at WWDC 2023

Voicemail to text

Nowadays, many users no longer use voicemail, even forget about it. But with iOS 17, Apple has taken voicemail to the next level. When users receive a voicemail, the Live Voicemail feature will convert the voice to text so that they can read the message content directly on the standby screen in real time, so iPhone users will not miss important information.

Turn your iPhone into a smart display

Standby mode on iOS 17 will work similarly to the Apple Watch's Night Stand mode. When placed horizontally on the charging dock, the iPhone will activate StandBy mode and the screen will display information such as calendar, clock, weather, etc. This mode works best on the screen of the iPhone 14 Pro series, while older iPhones that support iOS 17 can still be used, but users must activate it by tapping on the screen.

Interactive widget

On iOS 17, Apple has added more widgets on both the home screen and the lock screen, with interactive features that make them more useful. iOS 17 users can check reminders, control music, activate smart devices... without having to open the applications.

Keyboard upgrade

The autocorrection and word suggestion features of the iPhone keyboard on iOS 17 are applied with new generation AI technology to make predictions more accurately. Typing will also be faster when you just press the spacebar to fill in the suggested word. In some cases, iOS 17 can suggest a whole sentence.

The new iOS can learn users' writing habits to know special words, words that users intentionally misspell to autofill. However, this feature only supports a few popular languages, not Vietnamese, and requires devices from iPhone 12 and later.

FaceTime on Apple TV

With iOS 17 and tvOS 17, users can connect their iPhone to their Apple TV and use Continuity Camera to use the iPhone's camera while the image is displayed on the TV for FaceTime calls. Important features like Center Stage and effects can all work when using Apple TV.

In addition, iOS 17 also improves iMessages, AirDrop, and Siri virtual assistant. Apple said that devices from iPhone X and earlier will not be supported to upgrade to the latest operating system. The iOS 17 developer test version has been released, then it will be expanded to users in July, before officially launching in September with iPhone 15.
