5 Vietnamese delicacies in the top 100 most attractive street foods in Asia

International culinary website TasteAtlas has announced a list of 100 most attractive street foods in Asia, in which Vietnam is present with 5 delicious dishes including banh mi, pho, broken rice, spring rolls and banh xeo.

Banh mi, pho, broken rice, spring rolls and banh xeo are five Vietnamese delicacies that have made it onto the list of 100 most attractive street foods in Asia, announced by international culinary website TasteAtlas.

Coming in at number 3, banh mi is not only a familiar dish to Vietnamese people but is also extremely loved by international diners. Banh mi is unique in its appearance, flavor, preparation method and variety of ingredients.

Normally, a sandwich includes meat such as pork, beef, grilled meat, ham, sausage, eggs, pate, sausage... served with cucumber, pickles, herbs, chili sauce, soy sauce... depending on preference. Ranked at number 6 on the list, broken rice is a popular dish in Southern Vietnam, one of the famous street foods domestically and internationally.

Broken rice according to the recipe is made from broken rice - a type of broken rice, served with many side dishes such as grilled meat, fried eggs, egg rolls, shredded pork skin..., adding chopped green onions, tomatoes, cucumbers and pickled vegetables, drizzled with fish sauce, garlic and chili.

Visitors can easily find broken rice restaurants from affordable to luxurious all over the streets with the image of smoky outdoor charcoal stoves and the characteristic aroma of grilled meat.

Pho is indispensable in this list - the essence of Vietnamese cuisine. This is a dish favored by international tourists because of its delicate, characteristic, and unique flavor.

Pho is ranked 10th in the list.

Pho traditionally has a broth made from simmered bones with spices and herbs such as cinnamon, star anise, and cardamom. The noodles are placed in a bowl of hot broth, with meats such as chicken breast, thigh, beef brisket, beef shank, well-done or rare beef brisket, stir-fried. Garnish with green onions, herbs, fried breadsticks, lemon, chili, etc. according to taste.

The unique appeal of pho lies in the spices and herbs, which are both rich in flavor and light and delicate.

Ranked 24th on the list, spring rolls (as they are called in the South) or fried spring rolls (as they are called in the North) are a dish wrapped in rice paper and fried until golden brown. The dish is relatively simple to make, just wrap ingredients such as minced meat, shrimp, eggs, vermicelli, wood ear mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, carrots, etc. in a rice paper, then fry until golden brown on all sides and drain the oil.

Spring rolls have an eye-catching outer shell, crispy on the outside, soft and juicy on the inside, dipped in sweet and sour sauce to create an irresistible taste.

Besides the traditional fillings, people also prepare the dish in many different ways such as seafood spring rolls, fish spring rolls, or vegetarian spring rolls... Spring rolls can be used as both a main dish and an appetizer in a meal.

Banh xeo is ranked 43rd on the list, is an attractive and popular snack of Vietnam, combined with many delicious fresh ingredients. Banh xeo crust is made from rice flour, has a bright yellow color of turmeric, the aroma of coconut milk. The filling usually includes shrimp, stir-fried or diced minced meat, bean sprouts.

When the batter is poured into a pan of boiling oil, it makes a “sizzling” sound - just like the name of the cake. The dish is usually rolled with vegetables, lettuce, herbs and dipped in sweet and sour fish sauce.

This is not the first time Vietnamese cuisine has been named in the list of the most famous dishes in the world and Asia.

Recently, the famous culinary website Taste Atlas also announced that banh mi ranked first in the ranking of the 100 best sandwiches in the world, with a rating of 4.6/5 stars.

In 2023, in the list of 50 most attractive street foods in Asia listed by CNN, traditional Vietnamese cuisine had 3 dishes on this list: banh mi, pho and iced coffee.
