Christian Eriksen, Rasmus Hojlund and Diogo Dalot are all out of the final round of EURO 2024 qualifiers.
In the November 2023 international series, coach Kasper Hjulmand called up Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund to the Danish national team. However, both players were absent due to not recovering from injuries.
"It's a pity and bad luck. Denmark will lose two good players in the upcoming matches. However, the remaining players are also good individuals. We will devote all our concentration to winning," said coach Hjulmand.
Both Eriksen and Hojlund are key players for their national teams. Hojlund is even the second-best scorer in the EURO 2024 qualifiers with 7 goals, behind only Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo (9 goals) and equal to England's Harry Kane (7 goals).
Hojlund suffered a muscle strain after a hard time with Man United
Previously, both Hojlund and Eriksen had to leave the field early in the win over Luton in round 12 of the Premier League. According to Sky Sports, Eriksen suffered a knee injury and will be out for at least a month. Meanwhile, Hojlund has a muscle problem and will also have to spend 2 to 3 weeks resting.
In the EURO qualifiers, Denmark only needs one more win to secure a ticket to the finals next year. Coach Hjulmand and his team will face Slovenia (November 18) and Northern Ireland (November 21).
After Hojlund and Eriksen withdrew from the national team, another Man United player, Diogo Dalot, also did not join the Portuguese team. The defender born in 1999 was not injured but asked to spend time with Claudia Lopes. His wife is expected to give birth in the next few days.
Dalot's absence does not affect the quality of the Portuguese team much, because coach Roberto Martinez still has many quality players, notably Joao Cancelo of Barcelona. In addition, the last two matches of the qualifying round are just a formality for the "Seleccao", because they have already secured their ticket to the next round a few rounds ago. The two opponents of Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates in the coming days are Liechtenstein (November 17) and Iceland (November 20).
