Without letting the land rest, my grandmother's winter field grows vegetables all year round. The square, green fields are truly beautiful.

After several months of being busy with work, last weekend my parents let my sisters and I visit my mother's hometown. Early in the morning, my younger brother got up to prepare a fishing rod and some candy to go play with his friends in the countryside.

The road to my maternal home is now wide and spacious because it has just been rebuilt. The new road makes it only take about 30 minutes to drive from Hai Duong City to my maternal home. On the way home, on one side is a canal reflecting the straight rows of eucalyptus trees, on the other side are endless fields. When passing through those roads, I open the car window to welcome the fresh air of the countryside in the early morning.

My maternal hometown is the largest vegetable and spice granary in the province. This season, the fields are plowed by farmers, with rows of beds, and planted with all kinds of herbs, coriander, green onions, lettuce, etc.

While admiring the countryside, I soon arrived at my grandmother's house. The old brick path had been paved with concrete. On both sides of the house were rows of hibiscus plants that my grandfather had carefully trimmed, like a green wall.

When we entered the house, my sisters and I did not see my grandparents. We guessed that they had gone to the field to plant vegetables early in the morning, so we rushed to the field. The wind blew coolly on my face. The green color of corn, potatoes, and herbs rushed into my chest, making me feel very comfortable. The corn rows were starting to grow tall, with flowers blooming. It was early in the morning, but the field was already crowded with people. Everyone was busy planting vegetables quickly to sell in time for Tet.

When my grandfather saw my sister and I running to the field, he stopped working to pick us up. He asked why we didn't call first so that my grandparents could be home. My sister quickly said that she wanted to surprise them.

My grandparents are over 80 years old this year but still like to work in the fields. My parents are afraid that they will have a hard time, so they advised them many times to rent the fields to someone else, but they absolutely do not listen. My grandmother said that working makes them healthy and sometimes they send clean vegetables to Uncle Hung and my family to eat. My grandparents are bored at home with nothing to do.

She was working on some vegetable beds so she told my sisters and I to go home first to catch fish and cook chicken for the whole family. She told me that, but only my sister went home with him to fish, and I wanted to stay and help her sow vegetable seeds quickly. The mustard seeds were as tiny as marbles. She carefully mixed each handful of seeds into fine sand and sprinkled them evenly on the bed. She said that the people here had many years of experience growing winter vegetables, so they had a "good hand" and all the plants grew well. Thanks to this winter crop, my grandparents raised my mother and uncle to be educated. In the past, this field mainly grew corn, potatoes, and tomatoes, but now people have switched to growing herbs because they have a higher value.

Listening to her tell stories of the past, the two of them had sown two rows of vegetables in no time. The sun was almost overhead, she covered the rows with bundles of golden straw and packed up to leave.

The road to my countryside is now paved with wide concrete so that cars can go straight to the fields to buy vegetables. Without letting the land rest, my grandmother's winter fields grow vegetables all year round. The square fields, full of green vegetables, are so beautiful. I know that the green and warm color is due to the hard work and diligence of the people in my hometown.
