Vietnam wins high prize at CAIEC 2022 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition

The artificial intelligence software “Brain Analytics” by a research team from the International University under the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City won the second prize in the China-ASEAN Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.

On February 17, a research team from the International University under the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City was honored to receive the Second Prize (no First Prize) of the China-ASEAN Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (CAIEC) 2022 for its artificial intelligence software “Brain Analytics” that helps detect Alzheimer’s disease by analyzing MRI brain scans.

In Jakarta, the research group gathered about 20 people including doctors, engineers and students with the core being Pham Thi Nhu Trang, a final year student of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering - Ho Chi Minh City International University, Dr. Ha Thi Thanh Huong, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Duc and Dr. Ngo Thanh Hoan.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the ASEAN Secretariat headquarters in Jakarta, Pham Thi Nhu Trang said that Brain Analytics initially aimed to receive support from the Asian medical and startup community to develop the project outside of Vietnam in the future, and also wanted to seek funding to build a local database to improve the effectiveness of the product.

In addition to “Brain Analytics,” the CAIEC 2022 Second Prize was also awarded to a research project in the field of biomedicine, cell therapy for the treatment of type 1 diabetes by Professor Dang Thuy Tram (Singaporean of Vietnamese origin), and 3 colleagues Tran Minh Phuong Nam, Chen Yang, and Arnold Giovanni from Nanyang Technological University (Singapore).

The remaining second prize went to a biomedical research project by a Singaporean company.

Meanwhile, two third prizes were awarded to research projects on digital economy and high-tech agriculture by two enterprises from Cambodia and Myanmar.

In addition, the Organizing Committee also awarded the "Creative Star" award and the Jury Certificate to a number of groups and individuals.
