Ukraine has released the first video of the use of the powerful Storm Shadow cruise missile in combat.
The Ukrainian Air Force shared this video on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the force's founding on August 4.
The video shows a Storm Shadow missile being launched from a Ukrainian fighter jet. The Ukrainian military also called this the first official footage of a live launch of Storm Shadows.
The video shows a missile with a British flag and a French-branded missile, using the Storm Shadow's alternative name, SCALP, which is a common name in France. Storm Shadows are cruise missiles jointly developed by the UK and France.
Below is a video of the Storm Shadow missile launch released by Ukraine:
Ukrainian news site Defense Express reported that this is the first video showing the Storm Shadow missile being deployed in actual combat. According to Defense Express, the Storm Shadow was launched from an Su-24. Business Insider (USA) could not immediately verify this information.
In 2015, MBDA, the manufacturer of the Storm Shadows missile, released a video showing the missile in action. However, MBDA did not clarify whether the footage came from a test or actual combat situation.
Both the UK and France have supplied Storm Shadows to Ukraine. Notably, the UK was the first country to supply cruise missiles to Ukraine when the Storm Shadows arrived in Kiev in May 2023.
Ukraine has used Storm Shadows for long-range strikes, including an attack on Russia's Black Sea Fleet in Crimea.
