Previously, with the approval of the Ministry of Transport, from August 2, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam officially deployed the use of level 2 electronic identification accounts (VNeID) for passengers traveling on domestic flights at all airports nationwide.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requires agencies and units to implement the use of level 2 electronic identification accounts for passengers traveling on domestic flights (for Vietnamese citizens, VNeID is equivalent to a citizen identification card; for foreigners, VNeID is equivalent to a passport or international travel document).

As a port operator, representatives of Noi Bai International Airport and Tan Son Nhat International Airport said that the pilot use of level 2 electronic identification accounts on the VneID application helps facilitate management at the airport, minimize security risks and save time on procedures, and improve operational efficiency when applying digital technology to airport operations.

On the airlines' side, affirming that the VNeID application is accepted as a type of document for passengers to check in for flights, a representative of Vietnam Airlines said that this implementation helps to add a convenient type of document for passengers to travel by plane, minimizing inconvenience in cases where passengers forget or lose their identification documents, bringing peace of mind to passengers in the context of air travel, especially domestic aviation, which is increasingly developing, convenient, and customer-oriented services.

According to Mr. Tran Bao Ngoc, Director of the Department of Transport (Ministry of Transport), in the first 9 months of 2023, transport activities continued to flourish. Passenger transport output recorded positive signals in all 5 areas.

Specifically, in the first 9 months of 2023, passenger transport output reached more than 3,400 million passengers, an increase of more than 13% over the same period in 2022. Compared to the same period in 2022, railway passenger transport recorded the highest increase (up more than 44%), followed by sea passenger transport (up nearly 43%), air transport increased by approximately 22%, and road passenger transport increased by nearly 24%. In September 2023 alone, passenger transport is estimated to reach nearly 400 million passengers, an increase of nearly 6% over the same period last year.
