From September 5, the railway industry will apply fees for changing and returning train tickets.

Specifically, for Thong Nhat trains on the North-South route and regional trains such as trains from Hanoi to Vinh, Dong Hoi and vice versa, Ho Chi Minh City to Phan Thiet, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, Da Nang and vice versa, individual ticket changes are not allowed 24 hours before the train departure time and when returning tickets less than 4 hours before the train departure time. Changing tickets 24 hours or more before the train departure time, the deduction fee is 20,000 VND/ticket; returning tickets from 4 hours to less than 24 hours in advance, the deduction fee is 20% of the ticket price, from 24 hours or more is 10%.

For group tickets, ticket changes are not applicable; ticket returns are not applicable less than 24 hours before train departure. When changing tickets from 24 hours to less than 72 hours before train departure, the deduction fee is 20% of the price, from 72 hours or more is 10%.

Also for these train brands, when customers buy individual tickets far from the date, they will be eligible for a discount policy, the railway has its own regulations on ticket exchange and return. Specifically, for individual tickets purchased 5-9 days in advance, they will receive a 5% discount and for tickets purchased 10-19 days in advance, they will receive a 10% discount. When exchanging or returning tickets, the deduction fee is the same as for regular tickets. When purchasing 20-39 days in advance, they will receive a 20% discount and 40 days or more in advance, they will receive a 30% discount. When exchanging or returning tickets, the deduction fee is equivalent to the discount, but must be exchanged or returned 72 hours or more before the train departs.

Hanoi - Lao Cai train applies the same ticket exchange and return regulations as regular train tickets on the North - South route.

The Hanoi - Hai Phong train applies separate regulations. Specifically, individual tickets cannot be exchanged or returned 30 minutes before the train departs. From 30 minutes or more, the ticket exchange deduction is 10,000 VND/ticket, and the ticket return is 10% of the ticket price. For group tickets, ticket exchanges are not allowed; tickets cannot be returned less than 24 hours before the train departs. When returning tickets 24 hours or more before the train departs, the deduction is 10%.

The railway industry also stipulates that for exchanged individual tickets, if passengers continue to need to return their tickets, the return fee is 30% of the ticket price.

During this period, the railway industry still applies a discount policy for passengers such as: Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, war invalids, people with disabilities, the elderly, students, union members, passengers with customer cards... Children under 6 years old traveling with adults are exempt from tickets, children from 6 years old to under 10 years old are entitled to a 25% discount on ticket prices...
