President Luong Cuong signed a decision to posthumously award the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal to 12 martyrs of Battalion 17, Division 5, Military Region 7, Ministry of National Defense.
On December 7, President Luong Cuong signed Decision No. 1407/QD-CTN to posthumously award the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal to 12 martyrs of Battalion 17, Division 5, Military Region 7, Ministry of National Defense, for their outstanding achievements in performing combat drills, contributing to the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland.
12 martyrs were posthumously awarded the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal, including:
Sergeant Dang Quoc Binh, Squad Leader; Sergeant Nguyen Bui Truong An, soldier; Sergeant Trinh Doan The Anh, soldier; Sergeant Hong Chi Tai, soldier; Sergeant Truong Van Tien, soldier; Sergeant Thong Minh Kiet, soldier (all in Platoon 7, Company 3, Battalion 17, Division 5, Military Region 7);
Sergeant Vo Thanh Hieu, soldier; Sergeant Pham Ngoc Hieu, soldier; Sergeant Lam Hoang Nhat, soldier (all in Platoon 8, Company 3, Battalion 17, Division 5, Military Region 7);
Sergeant Nguyen Ho Gia Huy, soldier; Sergeant Bui Hy Lap, soldier; Sergeant Nguyen Trong Hoa, soldier (all in Platoon 9, Company 3, Battalion 17, Division 5, Military Region 7).
Previously, at 8:27 p.m. on December 2, at the National Shooting Range Region 3 (Xuan Tam Commune, Xuan Loc District, Dong Nai Province), an accident occurred during a defensive combat exercise of Military Region 7, resulting in 12 casualties. The initial cause was determined to be a lightning strike that triggered an electric detonator, causing the explosive to explode.
After the incident, on December 5, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed and issued Official Dispatch No. 126/CD-TTg on overcoming the consequences of the accident.
On the same day, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh signed Decision No. 1521/QD-TTg to award the "Fatherland's Gratitude" Certificate to 12 martyrs.
