On October 14-15, the Management Board of Duong Lam Ancient Village Relics (Son Tay town, Hanoi) organized many activities to promote the architectural value of Duong Lam Ancient Village, promote the history, culture, and architecture of the relic to a large number of people and tourists.
In particular, the exhibition “Community No. 01” brings the cultural and architectural values of Duong Lam Ancient Village in particular and Vietnam in general closer to the public. The event has the cooperation of architects, artists, and researchers of ancient villages.
The exhibition displays sketches of Duong Lam that have been implemented since 2013 and ancient Vietnamese house structures collected over 13 years. In addition, the program also organizes sketching exchanges right at Duong Lam by Urban Sketchers Vietnam, Urban Sketchers Hanoi and Hanoi Watercolor Artists Club in collaboration with Luly Art class. This is a meaningful combination between culture and architecture lovers and Duong Lam children, bringing many interesting experiences.
Head of the Management Board of Duong Lam Ancient Village Nguyen Dang Thao said: The exhibition contributes to bringing people and visitors interesting perspectives on the unique architecture of Duong Lam Ancient Village, thereby raising awareness of preserving and conserving traditional values, promoting the development of heritage sketching classes for children in the Village. Based on the success of the exhibition, the Management Board of Duong Lam Ancient Village will continue to organize other exhibitions in the public spaces of the Ancient Village.
Also on this occasion, the Management Board of Duong Lam Ancient Village honored Thai architect Oopatham Ratanasupa - who has researched and sketched typical architecture of Duong Lam Ancient Village since 2013.
Architect Oopatham Ratanasupa is also known as “Xe Om”. He is passionate about Vietnamese vernacular and contemporary architecture. Oopatham Ratanasupa graduated and worked as an architect for nearly 10 years in France. There, he absorbed information and learned about Vietnam from many different aspects. Currently, he is teaching at an architecture school in Bangkok (Thailand) and several prestigious universities around the world.
In 2013, Oopatham Ratanasupa came to Duong Lam Ancient Village, met and made friends with a friend who settled down in the village because of his love for Duong Lam. From the conversations and his love for Duong Lam, the idea of architectural sketches was born in him. The project he implemented in 2013 included building a map of the village, combined with sketches to show the unique and interesting features of the public architecture and many ancient houses here. Up to now, his personal project has formed a huge fortune, preserving the beauty of Duong Lam in a very unique style...
Through activities to promote the architectural value of the Ancient Village, especially through the meaningful work of Thai architects as well as Vietnamese architects and artists, the Management Board of Duong Lam Ancient Village Relics hopes that local people will increase their responsibility in preserving, conserving and promoting the inherent heritage value.
