US President Joe Biden announced on December 5 that he would run for re-election in 2024 partly because former President Donald Trump was also running for re-election.
Speaking at a fundraiser in Boston, Massachusetts, President Biden announced that he decided to run for re-election to prevent Mr. Trump from regaining the White House. He stated that “if Mr. Trump did not run, I would not have run,” and emphasized that he could not “let Mr. Trump win.”
Recently, Mr. Biden's own Democratic Party has suggested that he should "give way" to the younger generation to take over. However, the 46th owner of the White House still decided to run for re-election. Many believe that his decision was partly because Mr. Trump also announced his candidacy and partly because President Biden himself believes that he is the only one who can beat Mr. Trump - the leading candidate for the Republican presidential nomination.
On December 5, President Biden attended three fundraisers in Boston among seven held between now and December 11 and several more this month to prepare for the costly race for the White House.
