General Secretary and President To Lam receives leaders of several major US corporations

On the morning of September 25 (local time), General Secretary and President To Lam received leaders of several major US corporations in the fields of energy, space satellites and technology, including AES, Pacifico Energy, SpaceX and Google.

Receiving Mr. Juan Ignacio Rubiolo, Senior Vice President of AES Energy Corporation, General Secretary and President To Lam welcomed and highly appreciated the effective investment and business activities of the corporation in Vietnam in recent times.

Affirming that Vietnam always encourages foreign investors, especially in clean energy conversion projects, the General Secretary and President asked AES Corporation to continue to closely coordinate with Vietnamese partners during the implementation of projects to ensure compliance with legal regulations.

According to General Secretary and President To Lam, Vietnam is seeking solutions to balance its trade with the United States and therefore supports the import of liquefied petroleum gas to increase the import of US goods; at the same time, it is recommended that AES should not change its future implementation plans when the project is already included in Vietnam's electricity planning.

General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that the Party, State and people of Vietnam are committed to creating all favorable conditions for US investors in general and the AES Group in particular to effectively invest and do business in Vietnam.

Expressing his gratitude to General Secretary and President To Lam for taking the time to meet him, Mr. Juan Ignacio Rubiolo said that AES has been present in Vietnam for more than 15 years with many investment projects, and reaffirmed its commitment to a long-term presence in Vietnam, as well as supporting Vietnam's energy transition and green economy.

Mr. Juan Ignacio Rubiolo expressed his desire to cooperate with Vietnamese enterprises such as PetroVietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS) and Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) to optimize clean energy supply, provide for Vietnam's industrial projects, improve and ensure the reliability of energy supply for Vietnam.

Emphasizing that one of the US's goals is to help strengthen the Vietnam - US relationship, especially in clean energy, the AES Group's leaders expressed their gratitude to the Vietnamese government and ministries and sectors for supporting and accompanying AES in effectively implementing projects over the past 15 years; at the same time, they committed to continue to invest more strongly to support Vietnam's development, thereby improving the lives of Vietnamese people.

At the reception for Mr. Tim Hughes, Senior Vice President of SpaceX, the world's leading corporation in providing spacecraft, satellite launch services and satellite communications, General Secretary and President To Lam thanked SpaceX for its concern and offer of help regarding storm No. 3 (Yagi); expected that SpaceX's starlink service in the future will support Vietnam in responding promptly and effectively to natural disasters.

Emphasizing that Vietnam identifies digital transformation as one of the important driving forces bringing the country into a new era, General Secretary and President To Lam highly appreciated SpaceX Group's investment proposal in Vietnam and expressed his hope that this would be a favorable first step to further promote cooperation between the two sides in the coming time.

According to General Secretary and President To Lam, the Vietnamese Government is studying the Group's proposal; requesting SpaceX to discuss and coordinate closely with relevant agencies as well as domestic partners to ensure efficiency in the process of completing investment preparation procedures.

SpaceX launched its satellite internet project five years ago and now has more than 6,000 satellites in low orbit, which can provide internet access to nearly every corner of the globe, said Tim Hughes.

Assessing Vietnam as a very potential market for SpaceX's satellite internet development plan, Mr. Tim Hughes said the Group plans to invest 15 billion USD in Vietnam in the near future.

Agreeing with the policy of universalizing the Internet to all people, Mr. Tim Hughes affirmed his desire to support Vietnam in realizing this plan and hoped to receive support from the Vietnamese Government, as well as coordination from Vietnamese ministries and sectors to be able to initiate the cooperation process related to this project.

In an interview with Mr. Nate Franklin, founder and Chairman of Pacifico Energy Group, General Secretary and President To Lam highly appreciated the contributions and successful investment and business cooperation activities of Pacifico Energy in the world and in Vietnam in recent times; encouraged Pacifico's new investment plans for energy conversion projects in Vietnam in the coming time.

Stating that Vietnam is a responsible country in protecting the environment, respecting its commitment to the goal of net zero emissions by 2050 and promoting the energy transition, the General Secretary and President asked Pacifico Energy to speed up the implementation of ongoing projects, and hoped that the Group would have more projects in Vietnam.

General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that the Party, State and people of Vietnam are committed to creating all favorable conditions, in accordance with the law, for US investors in general and Pacifico Energy Group in particular to invest and do business effectively and sustainably in Vietnam.

Thanking General Secretary and President To Lam for taking the time to meet him, Mr. Nate Franklin said that Pacifico Energy is an American renewable energy investor with many projects in Asia, including being the largest investor in this field in Japan. The group has also been present in Vietnam since 2017 and is proud to be the first renewable energy enterprise to complete projects in Vietnam such as wind power and solar power.

Mr. Nate Franklin affirmed his understanding of Vietnam's energy needs to realize development goals in the new period and pledged to continue to coordinate with partners to effectively implement projects.

The leaders of Pacifico Energy Group assessed that Vietnam has many advantages in terms of geography and terrain to develop clean energy and committed to continue developing projects in Vietnam, ensuring energy for Vietnam to serve economic development; at the same time, they believe that Vietnam can still achieve the offshore wind power planning target by 2030.

At the meeting with Mr. Karan Bhatia, Vice President of Government Relations and Public Policy of Google Corporation, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that the fact that Google and its partners continue to expand their investment and business activities in Vietnam demonstrates the increasingly important position of Vietnam both in terms of strengthening the supply chain of goods and developing the market for the corporation's products.

General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that Vietnam will create business conditions for US enterprises with orientations consistent with Vietnam's development policies.

Affirming that the Vietnamese Government always creates favorable conditions for US businesses, General Secretary and President To Lam asked Google to continue to have a voice, guide suppliers in the Group's supply chain to expand investment and business in Vietnam and support capacity building, helping Vietnamese businesses participate in the Group's supply chain.

According to General Secretary and President To Lam, developing high-quality human resources is one of Vietnam's three strategic breakthroughs in the current period, especially in the fields of biotechnology, artificial intelligence (AI), chips, and semiconductors associated with promoting scientific research, technology development and application, and innovation and startups.

General Secretary and President To Lam also welcomed Google’s proposal on cooperation in training in the field of AI; hoping that Google will coordinate with the Vietnam National Innovation Center and domestic agencies, institutes and universities to implement specific and effective cooperation projects, bringing practical benefits to both sides.

General Secretary and President To Lam also highly appreciated the Group's proposal for cooperation in the field of cyber security because this is a particularly important field in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution strongly impacting all sectors of the economy.

Thanking General Secretary and President To Lam for taking the time to meet him, Mr. Karan Bhatia affirmed Google's commitment to cooperation with Vietnam and announced that this year the group has opened a new office in Ho Chi Minh City, as well as having a production facility for phones and other components operating effectively in Vietnam.

Mr. Karan Bhatia expressed his desire to continue researching and cooperating with Vietnam on AI development, a field of strength for Google that could be very useful for Vietnam. The Google leader shared about the group's AI approach, including building models, applying technology to Google's own products, and supporting the public and private sectors in applying AI to their operations.

According to Mr. Karan Bhatia, Google is expanding skills training in Vietnam to enhance cooperation on AI and then consulting on the policy and legal environment in the direction of optimizing AI development, typically licensing data transfer services. Google also expects to support Vietnam in cloud services combined with AI, as well as cooperation in the field of cybersecurity.
