How can I not love Hai Duong City, which is attached to me every minute and every hour, from early morning until late at night, even in my sleep. Every step, every breath has this city...
I woke up in the city in the morning. My first steps of the day were on the streets of Hai Duong. The streets with green trees or the harsh sunlight are all my hometown.
I slept in the city at night. The city, which is already peaceful, became even more peaceful at night. It seemed that the city's people always slept deeply. A few years ago, the city went to bed early. For the past two years, the city has had a walking street and Bach Dang night market operating on weekends. A more bustling nightlife, plus the Tue Tinh food street, adds spice to those who enjoy enjoying the nightlife of the Northern Delta.
Every day, I breathe in the city air. The construction sites on the dusty streets. But that is a sign of development. Many buildings are springing up. The drainage project brings hope to limit flooding in the city...
Too stuffy, I drove to Bach Dang Lake, Sat River to breathe in the fresh air rising from the city's hundred-year-old strata. The lake surface in autumn is gently shimmering with the sunlight from the autumn sun, which is no longer harsh.
My city in autumn, the grass patches on the street dividers also become strangely beautiful. A branch of wild grass blooming on the rooftop reminds the city of its rise from the urbanization process, from the muddy rice fields of Thanh Binh, Cam Thuong, Viet Hoa, Ngoc Chau, Hai Tan, Thach Khoi, Tan Hung and now to An Chau, Thuong Dat, Ai Quoc, Nam Dong extending to Gia Xuyen, Ngoc Son...
Sometimes the city has traffic jams. There are too many cars! People's living standards have improved, that's for sure. Before, urban people riding bicycles was considered a luxury, now cars crowd the streets.
New projects start with so many expectations. But then it is too slow! The lakes are so blue but sometimes dead fish float up because of pollution and anaerobic conditions. There is also a lot of waste…
Traffic jams, flooded streets, oh how frustrated I am with Hai Duong City! I suddenly realized that frustration is also a state of love, when in love people are often difficult with each other. No love, no expectations, no need to be frustrated. The more you love the city, the more frustrated you become.
I hope the city will progress more and more in this chaos.
This morning, passing by Thong Nhat Square, I saw the words "220 years of Thanh Dong", then "70 years of liberation of Hai Duong city" (October 30, 1954 - October 30, 2024). An old man who was exercising enthusiastically told me about the night before when he watched the historical film "Thanh Dong - 220 years of brilliant sunshine".
The film brings the city’s people back to the heroic historical memories of the founding of Thanh Dong and the struggle to liberate Hai Duong City. I really like a passage written in the Hai Duong electronic newspaper: “This is also an opportunity for people to connect and move towards a new era, an era of rising of the Vietnamese people, of the Party and government, of the people of Hai Duong province and Hai Duong City”.
That's right! Now we have to rise up, break out of our ordinary selves, the ordinary efforts of our city in the past time to develop quickly, to be worthy of being a heroic city, to be worthy of the position of "heart" of the whole Hai Duong province - the land of Eastern culture.
The development of Hai Duong City over the past 220 years is still not enough, we still have to aspire for more, to grow stronger. The face of the city is architecture, the depth of the city is culture, the vitality is production, trade, income, people's lives... Just look at the obvious things first. For decades, the height of the city's buildings has only been no more than 20 - 30 floors with Nam Cuong Hotel, recently Ecorivers apartment building. Truong Chinh Street, the "front" street of the city is still shabby, not looking like a modern, civilized street even though it was only built in recent years.
On the threshold of 220 years, Hai Duong city was swept away by the terrible storm No. 3 (Yagi). The streets were devastated, trees were broken and felled everywhere. But after just over a month, the trees were green again. Many fallen trees were revived and stood upright. The city "woke up" to celebrate its birthday, as if bursting into new life.
I love my hometown Hai Duong city!
