Garlic of Nam Tan Agricultural Service Cooperative is applied biotechnology in fertilization for high productivity and efficiency.

With the aim of finding effective and environmentally friendly fertilization methods towards green economic development and circular economy, in 2023, Nam Tan Agricultural Service Cooperative cooperated with Au Lac International Trading Joint Stock Company to deploy and apply biotechnology fertilization to more than 4 hectares of garlic and 2 hectares of chili. The process is applied from soil treatment to planting and care with Au Lac Micro Bio microbial products.

The results showed that the plants had strong roots, grew and developed well. The plants increased productivity, achieved high economic efficiency, and reduced investment costs compared to using chemical fertilizers by 30 - 40%. Pests on crops were also reduced. The use of chemical drugs was reduced by 60 - 70%. Mr. Tran Dinh Tuong, Director of Nam Tan Agricultural Service Cooperative said: "When applying biotechnology to plant care, I saw that the soil health was improved, the vitality of the plants was strong, productivity and efficiency increased, and emissions for agriculture were reduced. In the coming time, the cooperative plans to expand to other models."

Chili cultivation using biotechnology for high yield

Currently, the entire area of garlic grown using biotechnology of the cooperative has been harvested, with an average yield of 1 - 1.2 tons/sao, about 3-4 quintals/sao higher than conventionally grown garlic. It is worth noting that garlic grown using this method is firm, of good quality, and is favored by traders. With a selling price of 15,000 - 17,000 VND/kg, 1 sao of garlic yields 15 - 18 million VND, after deducting expenses, the profit is about 10 million VND. This crop, the cooperative only sold over 60 tons, the rest is saved as seeds for expanding the area for the next crop.

For chili plants, the application of biotechnology in the planting and care process has also proven effective. The roots and stems develop strongly, the leaves are thick, green, resistant to pests and diseases, giving good yield and quality fruit, easy to consume. After 3 months of planting, the chili plants are ready for harvest, the harvest time lasts from 3 to 4 months, the estimated yield is from 8 quintals - 1.2 tons/sao. The selling price of chili fluctuates depending on the time, from 14,000 - 20,000/kg. On average, 1 sao of chili is bringing in a profit of about 9-10 million VND.

7 hectares of rice in Nam Tan commune, which have been fertilized with biotechnology in the spring crop of 2024, are growing well.

From the effectiveness of applying biotechnology to fertilize crops, in the 2024 spring crop, Nam Tan Agricultural Service Cooperative has also deployed this method on 7 hectares of rice in 5 villages in the commune. Initial results show that the roots and stems of rice plants are growing well. The cooperative also applies biotechnology in poultry farming, treating organic waste sources and waste from livestock farming to make microbial fertilizers to fertilize crops. This is also the way to move towards developing a green economy, a circular economy, and an environmentally friendly economy.
