"Finding You Among a Thousand Twinkling Stars" is a tragic novel that touches the reader's heart, filled with sadness but also full of dreams.
The two-volume novel is the debut work of young author Ho Diep Thanh Thanh, inspired by the real life of an 18-year-old girl with cancer who carries a burning desire to live and love.
Finding You Among a Thousand Twinkling Stars has the appearance of an autobiography, more like a diary than a romance, no matter how beautiful and intense that love is. Above all, the journey to pursue the character's dream creates the appearance of a touching novel.
The novel series Finding You Among a Thousand Twinkling Stars consists of two volumes, published by the Writers Association Publishing House. Photo: FBN When the door of death slowly opens Như Ý is the main character. Her mother is missing, the girl is only 18, the most beautiful age of her life, and has to live with her rude father. Entering the "big family" of the Pediatrics department at the cancer hospital, she becomes the eldest sister, and together with the children, she experiences many tragedies brought by this terrible disease. Author Ho Diep Thanh Thanh said the novel was written from the pain of many years of witnessing her cousin suffering from a serious illness: "I remember that was the night we won the first AFF Cup, December 28, 2008, I heard that she was diagnosed with leukemia at the beautiful age of 18." The good news of the championship came to the whole country at the same time as the bad news came to Nhu Y. However, what moved the readers the most was not when Nhu Y was about to face death's door, but her smile "very bright, as if very carefree, heartless, not concerned with life at all". The author does not convey too much sympathy when writing about the infusions and pain; on the contrary, the reader feels the pain slowly but more tearfully through the character's "sparkling eyes without regrets about life". Như Ý is tough and strong, forcing everyone to laugh with her, but behind that is an innocent, pure soul that no worldly dust can touch. That always makes readers want to cry. "I'm 18 years old and still single" That is the most haunting sentence of Nhu Y. It is understandable when she says she has no regrets in life, because there are still many things in this world that she has not experienced, especially when she has not had even a fragile love. Continuing the character's dream, the author opens a gentle love story for his cousin, but leaves the reader tormented by many sorrows, when the boundary between life and death is near. However, that love story at least eases the loneliness on the character's journey to the final station.
The author lets Nhu Y meet Hai in the hospital, a young man who has experienced life in the city, suffered from the injustice of fate and is trying to escape. Two characters from two different worlds (Nhu Y grew up in a desolate, poor mountainous area, and even when facing a serious illness, she still radiates a lot of warmth), but they find something in common in each other. This motif is not new in literature. Overlapping it all is the journey of a young couple facing the most difficult challenge of their lives: physical separation. The author does not let his characters confess their feelings to each other, they never once said they love each other: "I think that when a person forgets himself for another person, it is a sacred feeling, very difficult to name". And if it is not love, it is still a beautiful feeling between two souls in harmony. Explaining the novel's title, the author shared: "I have a feeling that when I read it, it is quite romantic, as the content of the work aims for. There is a bit of music in my ears, a bit of joy, a bit of gentle brilliance... I always hope that after sadness there is hope, aspiration, and joy." The novel has a sad ending but sows in the reader's heart sparkling hopes for a bright future, telling us to stand up and overcome all ironic circumstances with passionate love. The work is a journey to find love, gentle, simple but full of emotion, because "people sometimes overcome life not because of elixirs, the quintessence of heaven and earth, but only thanks to something very close to them, which is love", the author wrote.
