On the morning of December 18, the men's singles table tennis final of the 9th National Sports Festival took place between two players Nguyen Duc Tuan (Hai Duong) - Nguyen Anh Tu (Hanoi) at Hai Duong Sports Gymnasium.
Nguyen Anh Tu brought home the sixth gold medal for Hanoi.
This is the last match on the last day of table tennis competition in the National Sports Festival hosted by Hai Duong.
Nguyen Duc Tuan and Nguyen Anh Tu are the two leading table tennis players in Vietnam today. They are both members of the national team that competed at the 31st SEA Games at the Hai Duong Sports Gymnasium, in which Nguyen Duc Tuan won the men's singles championship.
To enter this match, Nguyen Duc Tuan overcame his Hai Duong teammate Doan Ba Tuan Anh, while Nguyen Anh Tu overcame Dinh Hoang Anh and the Hanoi team in the semi-finals.
Nguyen Duc Tuan could not win the only gold medal for host Hai Duong.
The match started at 9:35, nearly 1 hour later than the Organizing Committee's schedule.
In the men's team event a few days earlier, Nguyen Anh Tu had defeated Nguyen Duc Tuan with a score of 3-1. This was a huge psychological advantage that helped Anh Tu defeat Duc Tuan in the first set with a score of 11-4.
Before entering this final match, the Hanoi table tennis team had won 5 out of 7 gold medals in table tennis.
The Organizing Committee awarded the men's team gold medal to the Hanoi team after they overcame Hai Duong.
Entering the second set, Anh Tu kept the right to serve. In this set, Duc Tuan played calmly and controlled many of his opponent's powerful forehands to win important points. The score was continuously balanced up to 10-10. However, Duc Tuan won with a score of 12-10. The total score was balanced 1-1.The only gold medal that the Hanoi team did not win belonged to veteran tennis player Mai Hoang My Trang of Ho Chi Minh City.
In game 4, Anh Tu won 2 points after 2 serves but let Duc Tuan tie the game 2-2. When he was down 3-6, Duc Tuan proactively asked for a timeout. After receiving instructions from the coach, the home player played effectively and tied the game at 10-10 and then 12-12. Duc Tuan excellently scored 3 points in a row and won 15-13.Nguyen Duc Tuan (podium number 2) could not bring home the only gold medal for the Hai Duong team.
In the 5th game, Duc Tuan was led by his opponent 10-3 and lost with a score of 5-11.Dinh Anh Hoang - Le Dinh Duc (Hanoi) won the championship after defeating 2 players from the Army.
After the men's singles final ended, the Organizing Committee proceeded to award prizes and close the event. The table tennis event in the 9th National Sports Festival hosted by Hai Duong took place at the Provincial Sports Gymnasium from December 11-18. There were 108 athletes from 13 delegations from provinces, cities and sectors competing: Hai Duong, Da Nang, Dong Nai, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Tien Giang, Tay Ninh, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Police and Army.8/13 teams won medals in table tennis 1. Hanoi ranked first, winning 6 out of 7 gold medals in the categories: men's team, women's team, men's doubles, women's doubles, mixed doubles and men's singles; 2 silver medals in men's and women's doubles, women's singles; 1 bronze medal in men's doubles. 2. Ho Chi Minh City team ranked second, winning 1 gold medal in women's singles; 1 silver medal in women's singles; 1 bronze medal in women's team. 3. Hai Duong team ranked third, with 2 silver medals in men's singles and men's team; 4 bronze medals in women's team, women's doubles, women's singles, men's singles. 4. The Army and Police delegations ranked fourth, winning 1 silver medal and 1 bronze medal. 5. Da Nang team won 2 bronze medals in men's team and men's doubles. 6. Tay Ninh and Khanh Hoa both won 1 bronze medal. |
