Ukraine's capital Kiev has been rocked by a large-scale ballistic missile attack launched by Russian forces, killing at least one person.
According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS), one person was killed and four others, including a child, were injured in the Obolonsky district after the above attack.
Firefighters have extinguished a fire in a partially destroyed office building.
In the Svyatoshynsky district, a fire broke out on the roof of a high-rise building but was later extinguished. Meanwhile, in the Holosiivsky district, a fire broke out in a two-story warehouse and efforts to control the blaze are continuing.
More than 80 rescue workers and 17 fire and rescue units are still at the scene, according to reports.
About a dozen explosions rocked Kiev at around 4:30 a.m. local time on February 12. Russian forces reportedly launched at least four Iskander M/KN-23 ballistic missiles at the Ukrainian capital.
The Kyiv Post reporter said he heard loud explosions shaking buildings in Kiev's historic center as well as across the city.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that fires were reported in the Holosiivsky, Podil and Svyatoshynsky districts. In the Obolon district, a major fire broke out in an industrial zone.
Most of the damage is believed to have been caused by falling debris from intercepted missiles.
In the Svyatoshynsky district, a fire broke out on the roof of a nine-story building. In the Darnytsia district, another fire broke out in the premises of a private enterprise.
Preliminary reports said one person was killed in the Obolonsky district, two others were injured, including a nine-year-old girl. Rescue teams rushed to the scene of the fires and are providing first aid to the victims.
The Russian Federation has not yet commented on the above attack.
